A driveway poured here will freeze and thaw dozens of times between November and April, take road salt tracked off the street, and carry vehicle weight over ground that heaves and settles with every cycle. We would rather tell you that in October than come back in April to talk about a slab that scaled over its first winter.

A slab that has settled unevenly, cracked through its full depth or lost its base is usually money better spent on replacement.
